Many of IMCC's offerings have moved online in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. Here are some instructions, tips, and tricks on using Zoom

Basic Instructions for Joining a Zoom meeting

Tips and Tricks

Profile Picture: If you don't have a camera on your device, or don't want to share your live video, you can upload a profile picture which will appear when your video is turned off. It's nice to see a face rather than a blank screen.

In the desktop application, open Zoom menu

Open settings

Open Profile, edit profile, upload photo

Audio and Video Controls:

  • on computers the controls appear on the lower left of your screen when you move your mouse
  • on a cell phone or tablet, tab the screen and the controls will appear
  • BEST PRACTICE: keep audio muted when not speaking. Ambient noises in your house are distracting for other participants. Get accustomed to muting and unmuting yourself when you want to speak. For some, not all, the space bar on your keyboard is a quick way to mute and unmute.

Shortcut Commands are ways to access controls using a combination of key strokes rather than locating and selecting specific menu options.

  • Mute and Unmute yourself: Alt+A on Windows and Command(⌘)+Shift+A on Mac
  • Raise your hand: Alt+Y (windows) Option+Y (mac)
  • Command(⌘)+Shift+V: Start/stop video
  • Command(⌘)+U: Display/hide Participants panel
