IMCC Hikes the Mill Prong-Rapidan Camp Trail

  • 07 Dec 2014
  • Meeting time and place TBA
IMCC member Helene Freiman leads the third of our fall hikes. The Rapidan Camp was built for Herbert Hoover during his term of office to serve as the first Presidential retreat. The camp has been restored with several historic buildings remaining. This hike begins at mile marker 53 on Skyline Drive. Park in the Milam Gap lot, then cross the drive to get to the trailhead. There are two options for this hike depending upon the interest of the group. The Rapidan Camp via Mill Prong Trail is 4 miles moderate round trip (in and back along the same trial) which is steep at places with 3 stream crossings and ends at the Rapidan camp. The other option is the Rapidan Camp via Mill and Laurel Prongs, which is a 7.4-mile moderate circuit, along streams with cascades.

Wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes, and bring a snack and water.

This activity is limited to eight participants. To sign up, please email Helene at helenefreiman@gmail.com. Helene will let you know the time and meeting place.

Note: You must print out and sign a liability waiver. Helene will collect waivers before you set out.
