Location: JMRL Central Library, Madison Conference Rm., 3rd floor

You are invited to join IMCC Member, Sonia Fox, for a Mindful Dialogue and Discourse Study Group.

Sonia says: I am not a scholar. I have studied some of the early Buddhist discourses and the deeper my study, the greater the joy and benefit I have found in it.

I would like to share this experience with others who would like to read some discourses with me, in various translations, using our discussion time as an opportunity to practice mindful listening and speaking. All reading will be done together. There will be a twenty minute meditation period before our reading and discussion.

Our first reading will be The Dhammacakkappattana Sutta, Setting the Wheel of the Dhamma in Motion. It describes how the Buddha first shared his realization with five monks he knew. The Sutta illustrates the beauty of sharing, is full of surprises and is deeply helpful. Though no prior reading is required for our meeting, if one wishes to read, entering Access to Insight, The Dhammacakkappattana Sutta, on your computer will take you to a web site that has several Theravadan translations of this discourse. We will, also, read from a Mahayana translation, which I will provide along with printed versions of the Theravadan translations.
