We again welcome Dharma Teacher and exceptional group facilitator Ruth King to offer the workshop  "Mindful of Race."

Racism--fed through unawareness and a misuse of power--remains one of the most rooted and painful impasses of our time and our history here in Charlottesville as in other communities.  To understand the dynamics of racism, and the flesh we put on its bones, is to understand other forms of oppression and our relationship to differences, divisions, and diversity.

This exploration requires courage and compassion, and an intention to be more whole than hidden. In our time together, we will explore the Relative reality of racism from three levels of experience: individual, group, and institution, and the system of oppression in our mind that is reflected in the world. Through periods of sitting meditation, respectful dialogue, and ceremony, we will recognize the ways in which our racial history has shaped our perception of others and ourselves, and how our views impact our relationships and well-being.

This workshop  was offered last year and was very powerful for all those who attended.  IMCC continues to pioneer a series of programs designed to guide us in looking more deeply into the experience of "separation" and the creation of "the other." By grounding our personal practice in the Buddha Dharma, we can investigate the causes and conditions within ourselves and society that perpetuate the suffering of separation. We can also explore together, in community, that which opens our hearts and minds  to our true nature and interconnection of all life.

For further information, please contact Kristina Weaver kristina.nellweaver@gmail.com.

Space is limited to 40 participants.

Tuition: $140.

IMCC aspires to be an inclusive and accessible community. We welcome participation from anyone, including those who may be new to meditation. If you are coming from out of town, we are happy to provide suggestions for accommodation. We also hope to offer a limited number of full or partial scholarships for this retreat. Please be in touch with any questions.
