A Half-Day Retreat by IMCC and Presence Center for Applied Theatre Arts

So much of the anger and violence that manifest in the world today stem from fear, ignorance, and isolation. How do we move to heal these conditions in ourselves and in our relationships? How do we build community that aspires to practices of non-harming, peace, and compassion for all? In our meditation practice we experience for ourselves the power of discovering our blindspots, healing our sense of separation, and shining insight on ignorance. As we learn from socially engaged Buddhism, this practice has an important role to play in our social and political, as well as personal, lives. Insight meditation provides a unique vantage point from which to explore some of the most painful realities of our modern world, including racism, classism, sexism, and all forms of discrimination "inside ourselves" as much as in the world "out there." A capacity for wise action can manifest, both internally and externally, through this practice.

Join us for a half-day of "mindfulness in movement," a retreat which will introduce individual and group exercises based in innovative drama methods, guiding us to embody our stories, wounds, and wishes for more personal awareness and a more just and peaceful world. IMCC is partnering with Presence Center for Applied Theatre Arts, a local nonprofit organization that takes an exploratory and participatory approach to helping us understand and heal social oppression, with compassion for allundefinedourselves included. This time together will offer a space for self-discovery and fun in building community.

Please wear comfortable clothing to allow for gentle movement.
