We hope you'll join us for an important discussion about the racial and ethnic history of Charlottesville. Charlene Green, Manager of the Office of Human Rights, will address the following questions:
Did you know that in the 1860s there were more Africans and African Americans than Whites in this area?
That there was a group of Black men known as the "Four Hundreds" who owned land and businesses after the Civil War?
That Vinegar Hill started out as a neighborhood populated largely of Irish immigrants? And that Charlottesville has a long history of different people coming together to fight segregation and discrimination?
All are welcome.
