Men's Racial Awareness Group

  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

This group started 3 years ago and has read, reflected on, and discussed the books: Mindful of Race and My Grandmother’s Hands. The group is now shifting focus to read bell hooks’ The Will to Change, a book that addresses male privilege and patriarchy.

The group meets in the evenings of the 2nd Wednesday of the month, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. New members are sought for the group as we begin exploring The Will of Change in July. The group facilitator role is shared by all members of the group, so there is an expectation that new group members will also function as group facilitator for 1-2 meetings.

Reading The Will to Change is expected to take one year (taking a chapter a month for the 11 chapters in the book), so joining the group involves a one year commitment.  Over time, the group’s dynamics has included emotional risk-taking, sharing of emotional responses, “not knowing,” providing support for each other, and a general willingness to be vulnerable. If you are interested in joining the group, contact Phil Dupont at pdupont5@hotmail.com.
