Who Do You Think You Are?

In the Buddha’s teaching, one of the three characteristics of this human life is anatta, or “no self.”  We do not, he teaches, exist as separate beings in the way that we think we do. This teaching can be deeply valuable as we work to heal “isms” in our world: the confused thinking and acting of racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, ageism, able-bodyism, anti-semitism and all of the ways of thinking and acting that keep us separate from one another.

In this evenings talk, we will explore how we come to develop a healthy and human sense of “self” and the relationship of this “self” to the Buddha’s teaching on “no self.”  In cultivating greater understanding and wisdom at this level, there can be more clarity and ease around  wholesome relationships and actions in our everyday world.

IMCC meets every Tuesday evening for a period of guided meditation and a talk by one of IMCC's experienced meditation teachers.  The program is designed to be friendly and of interest to people with no meditation experience as well as more advanced practitioners.
