The Eightfold Path: Bringing the Teachings to Life

The Buddha famously offered teaching on suffering and the way to end all suffering. The Noble Eightfold Path is at the very heart of these teachings, offering guidance that challenges us to bring the teachings fully alive in our ordinary and everyday practice.

This evening's talk will explore Wise Action. Much of the suffering we experience comes from actions we repeat over and over - habits that can be difficult to change. Mindfulness is a key to wise action that transforms unhealthy habits and cultivates those that serve happiness and well being. Mindfulness makes what is unconscious and automatic conscious and subject to choice.

This evening's teacher is Hugh Byrne, a guiding teacher with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington and author of The Here-and-Now Habit: How Mindfulness Can Help You Break Unhealthy Habits Once and For All.  He will be explore with us the skills and practices that allow us to change unhealthy habit patterns and cultivate wise action, living in alignment with our deepest intentions and values.

IMCC meets every Tuesday evening for a period of guided meditation and a talk. The program is designed to be friendly and of interest to people with no meditation experience as well as more advanced practitioners.
