The controversial practice on many university campuses of identifying potentially upsetting course material (trigger warnings), can be applied to the Dharma (Buddha’s teachings). After a guided meditation, Susan Stone will explore a seldom discussed dimension of practice—namely, that sincere Dharma practice disturbs one’s peace of mind and heart on the conventional level by challenging habitual patterns. On the universal level, it continues to challenge, for the process of awakening profoundly shifts one’s experience of life and the nature of self. Drawing from her own experience, she discusses how the longing for Truth can cause us to become lost, then to gradually become familiar with being lost and then to realize that being lost is being home.
