Unlikely Friendship: Slave and Slave Owner Descendants Speak about Healing Separation through Spiritual Practice
In March the Insight Meditation Community of Charlottesville and Sojourners United Church of Christ will host two opportunities to witness courage and hope in the shadow of slavery. In 2009 Jeff Fracher came across a video made by Bernadine Anderson, who documented her visit to a Louisiana plantation built by her enslaved ancestors. The video revealed that Bernadine's great-great-grandfather was owned by one of Jeff's forefathers. Each event this month will feature a screening of the short video followed by a facilitated conversation between Bernadine and Jeff, who will reflect on healing racial separation and finding friendship through honesty and faith.
