Loving - Lessons from the Vigil
with Susan Stone
For more than two years, IMCC members and others have kept a silent weekly vigil at Court Square, the central site of the historic slave trade in Charlottesville. The Buddha taught maintaining a heart of lovingkindness even in the face of brutality. What does this teaching mean in the context of the atrocity of slavery and continued racial injustice? In a talk titled “Loving—Lessons from the Vigil,” Susan takes an uncomfortable look at this question and shares lessons from her participation in the vigil in 2021.
