Remembering Refuge Weekend Retreat with Sharon Beckman-Brindley and Laura DeVault (REGISTRATION REQUIRED)
Saturday, September 13, 9 AM – 4:00 PM and Sunday, September 14, 9 AM – 1 PM Mountain Light Retreat Center, Crozet, Virginia “…The Buddha advised the recollection of Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha in order to give rise to gladness andconfidence…” Ajahn Sucitto
We usually think of a refuge as a place of safety. We can be afraid of flying or travel and we stay at home. We can be afraid of bandits and build big walls and hire guards. We can be afraid of disease and eat organic foods and wash our hands a lot. We can be afraid of being poor and work hard to build a fortune. We can be afraid of public speaking and refuse to speak. We can be afraid of dying and…. Hmmm… that last one is a clue. In the ordinary ways of our physical world, no matter what we do, there is no infallible ordinary refuge. In this retreat, we will inquire together and practice with the Buddha’s teachings on the Three Refuges. These invite a deeper inquiry and a deeper release than what our minds ordinarily do: what is it that stands between ourselves and full freedom? How can we cultivate a mind and a heart that remain free from suffering, no matter what circumstances our lives throw at us? Join us for a non-residential retreat in the beautiful Virginia countryside where we will practice silent meditation and, together, the contemplations of Insight Dialogue with which we meditate in dialogue with others. This ID practice allows us to perceive and understand things that are normally overlooked by our conceptual minds. Meditating together, we come to know and to release these habits of our minds and we find there is nowhere to be but here. Refuge is available. Always. Additional information about Insight Dialogue may be found at https://insightdialogue.org/ $50 registration fee, payable online. Scholarships are available; email: opsdirector@imeditation.org
