In Buddhism, equanimity or upekkha is one of the 4 Divine Abodes  or 4 great virtues  (with compassion, loving kindness and sympathetic joy ) that the Buddha taught his disciples to cultivate.

In everyday life equanimity suggests a way we keep a certain balance and even mindedness even under stress, or being steady in the midst of changing situations.  In a larger spiritual sense, when equanimity is fully practiced and developed, it takes on an extended meaning of giving balance, harmony and peace to our lives.

Tonight's reflection will be on the experience and practice of equanimity through a short talk and guided practice.

IMCC meets weekly for an evening of guided meditation followed by a brief talk.  The program is designed to be friendly and of interest to people with little meditation experience as well as for more advanced practitioners.
